The IAEA Board of Governors intends to urge Russia to leave the Zaporozhye NPP

The draft resolution of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Safety Agency (IAEA) calls on Russia to stop all activities at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant and other nuclear facilities in Ukraine. With document got acquainted Reuters agency.

The text of the resolution was prepared by Poland and Canada and was distributed to representatives of all 35 countries that make up the council. The text expresses regret over the continued presence of Russian forces and Rosatom personnel at ZNPP.

The resolution calls on Russia to “immediately cease all actions against and at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant and at any other nuclear facility in Ukraine so that the competent authorities can restore full control over all nuclear facilities within the internationally recognized borders of Ukraine,” the document says.

Similar wording was used in resolutions Board of Governors of the IAEA on March 3, however, then it was primarily about the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Since that time the resolution was adopted without any problems, it is likely that it will be adopted without significant changes this time as well, agency sources said. The resolution also supports sentence IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi on the conclusion by Moscow and Kyiv of an agreement on ensuring security.

On September 6, the IAEA published a report on the results of the mission to the ZNPP. The organization called for an end to attacks on the station and the establishment of a safe zone around it. At the same time, experts did not specify who was shelling the object. The report also says that several events have been recorded at the ZNPP since the spring that violate the principles of nuclear safety, and that members of the delegation themselves witnessed the shelling.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the IAEA report on the situation at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant can be trusted, despite the fact that the nuclear agency is under pressure from the US and the EU. At the same time, he noted that there is no Russian military equipment on the territory of the ZNPP, which the IAEA proposes to remove. Equipment, including those operating as part of counter-battery combat, is located outside the station’s perimeter, Putin concluded.
