The Zaporozhye region is ready to export up to two 2 million tons of grain to China, Yevgeny Balitsky, Acting Governor of the region, told RIA Novosti.

“We are not just doing this work, this is our strategic direction. We would very much like, in cooperation with the People’s Republic of China, to obtain for ourselves the sale of two million tons of our grains, which we grow for sale,” said he, adding that the Zaporozhye region is also ready to supply flour and vegetable oil.

At the end of June 2022 Balitsky informed on the departure from the port of Berdyansk, Zaporozhye region, of the first ship with 7,000 tons of grain, which is intended for export to “friendly countries”. At that time, Balitsky was in the status of the head of the pro-Russian military-civilian administration (VGA) of the region, which had not yet become part of the Russian Federation.

Zaporozhye region became part of Russia in October 2022 following a referendum. Since October 19, 2022, martial law has been introduced in the region.
