Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Spartak Moscow did not contact the department because of problems with the departure of Dutch striker Quincy Promes from the UAE. Netherlands announced football player is on the international wanted list for drug smuggling.

“Representatives of Spartak have not yet contacted either the Russian Embassy in Abu Dhabi or the Russian Consulate General in Dubai, where the alleged detention took place,” Ms. Zakharova told the publication “Championship.com”.

“RBC Sport” citing sources, reported that Quincy Promes was unable to fly from Dubai to St. Petersburg with the team. He was detained at passport control. According to sources, this is not related to the sentence handed down against the football player in the Netherlands. Representatives of Spartak, in response to a request from Kommersant, refused to comment on the information.

February 14 court in Amsterdam sentenced Quincy Promesa to six years in prison for smuggling more than 1,350 kg of cocaine. The football player was not present at the trial. Prosecutors alleged that he directed the importation of drugs through the port of Amsterdam in 2020. Promes promised to appeal the verdict.
