Zakharova commented on the suspension of the simplified visa regime with Russia by the European Union

The European Union, having decided to suspend the visa facilitation agreement with the Russian Federation, discriminates against people. Such a decision is devoid of common sense, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.
As the diplomat noted, the EU policy in terms of abolishing the simplified visa regime does not meet the interests of the residents of European states themselves. The claim that Russian tourists pose a threat to EU security is absurd.
According to Zakharova, this decision is based on the desire to punish the Russians with collective responsibility for supporting the Russian special military operation in the Donbass and Ukraine. The diplomat called the actions of the European Union a thoughtless following of American instructions.
Earlier it became known that the heads of the EU foreign ministries decided to suspend the previously adopted Visa Facilitation Agreement between the Russian Federation and the European Union.
