Zakharova called the theses about Russia from the report of the Latvian Foreign Ministry “inhuman stupidity”

The anti-Russian statements contained in the report of the Latvian Foreign Ministry testify to “inhuman stupidity”, told Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on Sputnik radio.

Earlier, Latvian Minister of Foreign Affairs Edgars Rinkevics presented to the government a report on the activities carried out and planned in the field of the country’s foreign policy. In a document like notes NRA agency, much attention is paid to “Russian aggression”, which, according to the Foreign Ministry, has created numerous threats to world security and stability. In the report, the minister stressed that Russia’s defeat in the conflict in Ukraine meets the “strategic interests of Latvia.”

“This is not a story about a pug, this is not a story about an elephant, this is a story about inhuman stupidity and the inability to add up not only one plus one, but one plus zero,” Zakharova commented on this report (quote according to RIA Novosti).

Zakharova cited as an example the statement of Estonian Prime Minister Kai Kallas, who said, referring to the Ukrainians, that the country does not need another group of people who do not speak Estonian. Such statements, following the support provided to Kyiv, indicate that the Baltic countries “they do not understand what they are saying,” Zakharova said.

On January 9, it became known that Latvia initiates suspension of the law on repatriation in order to limit the ability of Russian citizens to move to permanent residence in the republic.

In 2022, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 81% of people who received the status of a repatriate were Russians. 430 applications were received from citizens of the Russian Federation, the status of a repatriate or a family member of a repatriate was assigned to 220 citizens of the country. The ministry believes that the number of applications increased when “Russia’s economic and international stability was threatened” as a result of a special operation in Ukraine.

Russia’s special operation in Ukraine began on February 24, 2022. President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin called the protection of the inhabitants of Donbass, as well as the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, its goals. During the special operation, Russian troops took full control of the LPR, as well as most of the DPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. Subsequently, these territories became part of Russia, and on October 19 martial law was introduced in the regions.
