Member of the State Duma Defense Committee, Lieutenant General Viktor Sobolev commented on an interview with the head of the Duma Defense Committee, Colonel General Andrei Kartapolov, in which he noted that in the event of a large-scale war, Russia would not be able to get by with a mobilization reserve.
Sobolev explained that the mobilization reserve is people who served and trained in the army, from which new units can be formed or units are understaffed. However, today, if NATO unleashes a large-scale war against Russia, the Russian Federation does not have the mobilization reserve necessary to counter the alliance.
“One out of ten served in our army,” the general said in interview NSN, adding that this approach needs to be changed. According to Sobolev, 100% of young people should have a military registration specialty. They need to be trained for at least 6 months in the DOSAAF system, in training units and subdivisions, and to conduct training camps. After that, they must be credited to the mobilization reserve in case of war.
He also called for the restoration of a mobilization deployment base in the country – units and formations of a reduced staff with officers, equipment and ammunition.
