The detention of pro-Russian blogger Mikael Badalyan and Sputnik radio columnist Ashot Gevorkyan in Armenia is a provocation. Such a statement did official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, welcoming the participants of the Russian-Armenian media forum in Yerevan.
“It is obvious that behind this provocation are the very forces that are not interested in bringing our countries and their people closer together,” she said.
Zakharova did not rule out that the incident during the Russian-Armenian Media Forum could be aimed at disrupting this event.
The diplomat also drew attention to the fact that the negative agenda about Russia has clearly dominated in the information space of Armenia lately. She emphasized the inadmissibility of inciting hostility and hatred between citizens of Russia and Armenia “by blaming Russia for all the troubles of the Armenian people.”
Zakharova noted that Moscow is interested in finding “ways to rectify the situation” and urged not to succumb to provocations. The diplomat emphasized that the common history and future of the two countries “will endure all this.”
September 6 and 7 in Syunik region of Armenia were detained seven citizens, including Badalyan and Gevorkyan. They pass according to paragraph 2 of Art. 335 of the Criminal Code of the Republic (illegal trafficking in firearms, their main components, ammunition, etc.). Commenting on what happened, Zakharova statedthat the West has invested “very big money” in worsening relations between Moscow and Yerevan.
