India is preparing to host the G20 summit. Russian President Vladimir Putin is not participating in the event and will not even speak via video link. The delegation is headed by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Chinese President Xi Jinping will also not come to New Delhi. According to Bloomberg, during the meeting Western representatives will try to establish contacts with countries of the Global South, and the main topic of discussion will be Ukraine. Kommersant FM political commentator Dmitry Drize is waiting for new initiatives to resolve the conflict.

The task of the Russian delegation led by Sergei Lavrov in New Delhi is to promote reform of the system of global economic governance so that developing countries can live better. Russia will also touch upon issues of energy and food security.

An ordinary person may find this boring and uninteresting, and in vain. By the way, we are talking about the future of the entire globe. This is, in fact, what all these summits are for.

At the same time, of course, this is an opportunity for the leaders of the world’s 20 leading economies to have a heart-to-heart talk with each other about painful issues, in this case about Ukraine, this is the biggest problem, to be sure.

However, as we know, Vladimir Putin will not come to New Delhi and will not even speak via video link, nor will Xi Jinping, instead of whom Prime Minister Li Qiang will represent China at the summit.

Thus, the balance of power looks like this: the “Group of Seven” – the EU, the USA, the countries of the Global South and the host of the event – India, plus invitees. It is difficult to say whether the Western former partners will be able to reach an agreement with representatives of other continents behind the backs of Russia and China.

Judging by numerous publications and revelations from informed sources, they will at least try to do this.

Meanwhile, this summit is very important for US President Joe Biden. By the way, it may be his last, since it is unclear what may happen in the next election year.

The main intrigue is the American peace plan for Ukraine or some kind of breakthrough initiative, an offer that will be difficult to refuse.

Something like this is actively expected. It’s not for nothing that Secretary of State Antony Blinken stayed in Kyiv for two days the day before.

It is assumed that the idea will be thrown in, so that its discussion will then continue at the UN General Assembly with the participation of both Xi Jinping and Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky, although, again, without the Russian president.

By the way, a large summit meeting of the countries of the West, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East is scheduled for December. This is a new format that is entirely dedicated to the Ukrainian problem.

There is no point in building further hypotheses. We can only remind you that last year in Bali We also waited and hoped, but in the end we saw only an expansion of the confrontation. And now a similar scenario is possible.

If it is not possible to reach an agreement, then wait for a new round of confrontation, which will not be clear how it will end. Ukraine is already definitely receiving F-16 aircraft, and there they will probably supply Kyiv with long-range missiles and other advanced destructive equipment.

The principled position of the West is no agreements without Ukraine, this is also worth taking into account when it comes to hypothetical negotiations. And the second aspect is what the West wants from the Global South. Is he ready to move away from neutrality and take a more active position regarding what is happening in Europe?

There is, of course, little hope for a breakthrough, but at least it should be interesting. There will be big politics at the summit, and not just climate and “green shoots” of economic growth, which sometimes break through, and sometimes vice versa.
