Zakharova called for thinking about punishment for Russians with “passports of democracy”

The Russian parliament should start “working out a reaction” to the event that the European Union introduces “democracy passports” for opposition-minded Russians, stated official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova in her Telegram channel.

We’re talking about September project European Parliament report on relations between Russia and the EU. In it, MEPs proposed introducing “passports of democracy” and easing the visa regime for representatives of the democratic opposition and civil activists so that they could continue their activities in EU member states “while in exile.”

“That is, to all those who fled from Russia, Brussels will issue their documents as “little helpers of democracy.” But they have big plans: holders of “democracy passports” will become the backbone of the EU after “Ukraine’s victory and Russia’s defeat, which will open a window of opportunity for transforming Russia into a democracy,” Zakharova noted.

The Foreign Ministry representative compared such passports with Volkslists issued by the authorities of the Third Reich, including residents of the occupied countries who collaborated with them, as well as documents that people from the USSR received after joining the service of Adolf Hitler.

“According to Soviet legislation, signing the Volkslist was qualified as treason and was prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I think our legislators will be right if they begin to work out a possible reaction if the European Parliament approves such decisions,” says Zakharova.

The draft report of the European Parliament states that when a “window of opportunity” arises, the EU should expect the Russian “democratic coalition” to prepare a new constitutional framework for Russia. The EU should, without delay, the authors of the project believe, develop a draft of a new generation agreement between the EU and the “future democratic Russia”, including provisions on trade and investment, joint working bodies, good neighborly relations, etc.

“Those who called for the victory of the Nazi bloody regime must answer according to the law. Decide where to send them next,” Volodin said at a State Duma meeting.

European authorities are talking about the need to limit the entry of Russians into the EU from the summer of 2022. At the end of August in Prague, EU foreign ministers decided to abandon the simplified procedure for issuing visas. Now the process of obtaining a Schengen visa for Russians has become more expensive and longer. Now Russians are issued Schengen cards in France, Spain, Hungary, Italy, Greece, etc. After the start of the military operation in Ukraine, the provision of European visas was stopped in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Denmark, etc.
