“Deep Thoughts of Yesterday’s Kid”
In a recent interview, actor Artur Smolyaninov, who left for the United States, spoke about the “deep people” of Russia, with whom he, being a city dweller and a “worker of mental and cultural work,” has nothing in common. His colleague Yulia Menshova ridiculed the artist’s statements, emphasizing that illiteracy is characteristic of many domestic actors, so they allow themselves such statements.
In a post on her telegram channel, Menshova explained that in theater institutes at the acting and directing departments, creative disciplines have always been leading, despite the status of a higher educational institution. As the actress noted, a gifted person will never be expelled, even if he fills up other subjects.
Moreover, according to the artist, people who do not have a chance to enter anywhere else according to the results of the Unified State Examination still get into the acting departments. She noted that for the acting profession, talent and “the ability to fit into someone else’s shoes” are more in demand than the level of education. Menshova admitted that she personally knows many artists who do not read anything except the texts of their roles, write with “monstrous errors”, while having “zero abilities for analysis and critical thinking.”
However, according to her, most actors have a mobile psyche, which includes a huge supply of different emotions: from gigantic sympathy to righteous anger. Here Menshova attributed “a considerable supply of vanity and ambition.” It is with this set of qualities that the artist explains that the actors seriously talk about any topic.
The actress added that Smolyaninov’s interview is “the thoughtful reflections of yesterday’s kid from a not very prosperous family,” who has now become a “worker of mental and cultural work.”
