The leadership of the RANEPA suggested that Yulia Galyamina, Associate Professor of the Department of Theory and Practice of Media Communications at the Institute of Social Sciences (included in the register of foreign agents), switch to “non-pedagogical and non-scientific positions.” Ms. Galyamina herself wrote about this on Facebook (Meta, recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation). The notice from the university, which was published by Ms. Galyamina, says that if she does not agree to a transfer to another position, she will be fired – according to new law foreign agents cannot teach.
“Assigning me this status entails for me, among other things, a violation of my labor rights. Because I am a teacher. Now I can’t teach. … I was offered to switch to non-pedagogical and non-scientific positions. This is a completely different profession. I can teach students, but I’m not ready to become, for example, a career development specialist, as they offer me. So after the dismissal, I will think about what I should do, ”wrote Yulia Galyamina.
In early September, the Ministry of Justice declared Ms. Galyamina a foreign agent. In the summer of 2020, she participated in a rally against constitutional amendments. Yulia Galyamina was accused of violating the rules for holding mass actions, the court sentenced her to two years probation.
According to the law “On Control over the Activities of Persons Under Foreign Influence”, a foreign agent cannot conduct educational and pedagogical activities for minors in state and municipal educational organizations.
This is not the first case of dismissal from a teacher’s position due to the status of a foreign agent. In September from the Perm State Humanitarian Pedagogical University fired recognized as a foreign agent Vitaliy Kovin, a political scientist who headed the regional branch of the movement for the protection of the rights of voters “Voice” (included in the register of foreign agents).
