The YouTube video service will close the ability to subscribe to Premium Lite starting October 25, 2023. A subscription costing €6.99 per month allowed you to watch videos without ads. About it reports The Verge with a link to the emails subscribers received.
Premium Lite was half the price of the main Premium subscription and did not include premium features such as background playback and downloading videos to your device for later offline playback. YouTube launched Premium Lite in 2021 in select European countries, including Sweden, Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands. After their subscription ends, Premium Lite users will have the option to either return to watching ad-supported videos or upgrade to a basic Premium subscription, with the first month free.
Previously YouTube added for Premium subscribers the opportunity to watch 1080p video with increased bitrate. Also service raised Premium subscription price: monthly fee increased by $2, to $13.99, and annual fee by $20, to $139.99. The cost of a separate music streaming service, YouTube Music, has also increased to $10.99 per month.
