Yerevan hands over new peace deal proposals to Baku

Armenia sent Azerbaijan new proposals for a peace agreement between the countries, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said.

“The Republic of Armenia yesterday completed the next stage of work on a peace treaty and the establishment of relations with Azerbaijan, and our proposals were submitted to the Azerbaijani side,” leads his words to RIA Novosti.

The document was also sent to the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, the prime minister added.

Earlier on January 10, Pashinyan informedthat Yerevan sent proposals to Baku regarding a peace agreement, but the answer from the Azerbaijani authorities did not come. The Prime Minister of Armenia noted that it is important not only to sign a peace treaty, but also to comply with it. He also expressed readiness to sign a document on the settlement of the Karabakh conflict within the framework of the conditions proposed by Russia.

On the same day, Pashinyan announced that Armenia won’t to host the planned CSTO exercises “Indestructible Brotherhood – 2023”. In addition, he proposed replacing Russian peacekeepers in Karabakh with a UN contingent after the expiration of the Russian mandate in 2025. This happened against the background of the blocking of the Stepanakert-Goris highway in the Lachin corridor, which began on December 12 last year. According to the Azerbaijani side, the pretext for blocking was the need to check the cargo for the export of gold from mines actually controlled by the NKR. This is the only transport artery that connects the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) and Armenia.
