Yekaterinburg covered with smoke from forest fires – Kommersant

In Yekaterinburg, smog was recorded against the backdrop of wildfires that arose in the Sverdlovsk region, Interfax reports with reference to the regional operational headquarters. Local residents are advised not to open windows, use masks and respirators on the street, wash their nose and throat more often, and refrain from long walks.
According to the forecast of the Ural Department for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring, on May 9–10, a high fire danger will remain in the region. On the night of May 10, frosts down to -7°C are possible in some areas.
More than 54,157 hectares of forest have been engulfed in fire in the Sverdlovsk region. Yesterday, May 8, in the region was extinguished ten fires on an area of more than 4 thousand hectares. Due to fires in three villages of the region introduced state of emergency, local authorities requested federal assistance to fight fires.
