“Yandex.Browser” can now impose off-screen translation on live broadcasts

The Russian company Yandex has introduced a new technology for automatic voice-over translation of live broadcasts on YouTube. The beta version is available in the latest version of Yandex Browser and can translate some YouTube channels.
The company notes that offscreen translation of streaming video is a complex engineering task and several neural networks are working on its implementation at once. One recognizes audio and makes text out of it, the other determines the gender of the speaker, and the third places punctuation marks and highlights semantic fragments. Another neural network synthesizes a voice-over in Russian based on these data.
Along with the voice-over, you will be able to watch presentations of new products from Apple and Google, NASA space launches, as well as live broadcasts of game novelties from IGN and The Game Awards. “Yandex” launched voice-over capability for regular YouTube videos in September 2021.
