Fossils of Europe’s last pandas discovered in Bulgaria

The journal Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology published information from researchers from the Bulgarian National Museum of Natural History and Peking University, according to which a previously unknown giant panda was discovered on the territory of modern Bulgaria.
It is clarified that related species of this individual may be relatives of pandas that live in modern Asia.
Scientists noted that the ancient panda could live in a wooded and swampy area. She was a herbivore, but adapted to eating tough bamboo. The teeth of an extinct panda are very similar to those of a modern animal.
We add that this find was made back in the 1970s, but then scientists did not recognize the remains of a giant panda in them.
