WSJ: Incidents with civil aviation have become more frequent in Russia

At the end of last year in Russia, for every 100,000 aircraft departures, there were 9.9 incidents that were related to aviation safety. According to The Wall Street Journal, compared to 2022, this figure has doubled.
The publication notes that Western sanctions have impacted Russia’s ability to carry out aircraft maintenance, purchase spare parts and implement critical software updates.
The article provides data from the German portal Jacdec, which collects information on safety-related incidents on aircraft. It notes that last year approximately 74 flight safety incidents were recorded in Russia, which is twice as many as in 2022 (36 incidents).
Safety experts stress that while most incidents end without serious consequences, persistent technical failures pose a serious risk to passenger safety and increase the workload of pilots, which can lead to more serious incidents.
