World record holder Alexander Popov holds a youth swimming tournament in Tomsk

From December 20 to 23, the regional swimming competition “Alexander Popov Cup” is being held in Tomsk. More than 650 young swimmers from Krasnoyarsk, Kemerovo, Novosibirsk and other young swimmers came to the tournament.
The founder of the cup was six-time world champion, 21-time European champion, four-time Olympic champion, Honored Master of Sports Alexander Popov.
Children compete in different categories between the ages of 9 and 16 years old.
Popov told the publication “Komsomolskaya Pravda – Tomsk”, that traditionally such competitions were held in Yekaterinburg, but there was always an idea to go to Siberia, since “there is no particular point in training just for the sake of training.” Now tournaments are held in both Kemerovo and Buryatia.
The renowned champion is confident that sport only helps one’s studies and teaches discipline.
