World of Warcraft will be turned off in China at midnight on January 24

Millions of Chinese players of the epic role-playing game World of Warcraft (WoW) will no longer be able to enjoy it due to a conflict between American developer Blizzard and its local partner NetEase.
This addictive game took the world by storm in the early 2000s. She made millions of users sit in front of the monitor for hours. It appeared in China in 2008. In accordance with the laws of the country, the developer must cooperate with local companies to enter the market. After 14 years of cooperation, Blizzard and NetEase could not agree on the terms of a contract extension. Therefore, the Chinese WoW servers will shut down at midnight local time on January 24th.
The same fate will befall other popular games from the Californian developer, including Overwatch, Diablo III and Hearthstone.
Chinese users were horrified. In their opinion, WoW was not just a game, but a symbol of a whole generation of Chinese. They lamented that the two companies were taking gamers hostage.
Blizzard China said the shutdown would not be the end of the collaboration. This is just a temporary suspension, user data may be kept until or if the game returns to China.
