On March 2, Russian judoka Kazbek Zankishiev, a heavyweight and winner of many awards at high-ranking tournaments, passed away, according to the Telegram channel of the Russian Judo Federation.
Kazbek was 31 years old. The Russian Judo Federation expresses sincere condolences to the family and friends of Kazbek Zankishiev.
“He was a talented athlete and a worthy person. This is a real loss for domestic judo,” the statement says.
According to unofficial information, the athlete died from thromboembolism.
In 2018, Zankishiev won bronze at the World Championships in Baku in the team competition. In 2011, he won the Junior World Championship.
