With the support of Segezha Group, the Galich Zaozerye ski marathon was held in Galich

On March 12, in the village of Toltunovo, Kostroma Region, with the support of Segezha Group (MOEX: SGZH, part of AFK Sistema) and a number of other Russian companies, the Galich Zaozerye ski marathon was held. For the first time, a large-scale sports festival became part of the All-Russian series of ski marathons Russia Loppet, which includes 46 unique competitions in the most amazing places in the Russian Federation. This year, the participants of the Galich Zaozerye ran the title distance of the marathon – 50 km – for the first time.

Segezha Group provided the organizers of a bright event in the world of sports with about 400 square meters of plywood for mounting the stage, podiums, tents, children’s area and locker rooms. The company also made five information stands and 10 folding ski racks from plywood.

Despite difficult weather conditions, more than a thousand participants from 25 regions of Russia came to the start. The flags of the timber industry holding Segezha Group were defended by 19 amateur athletes, employees of the Vyatka and Galich plywood mills (VFK and GFK).

Pavel Pokolev, the foreman of the GFK power supply department, won the 2nd place in the “Hunters” nomination at a distance of 1,000 meters. Four athletes competed from the WFC. A good result was shown by veneer peeler Dmitry Kholkin, who finished 21st out of 250 participants at a distance of 25 km. A large group of company volunteers worked on the track, helping athletes and fans, creating a festive atmosphere.

The medals were presented to the winners by the governor of the Kostroma region Sergey Sitnikov. He noted: “Those who understand what kind of sporting event this is, understand that this is a race of physically prepared people, courageous people. It’s a very big, beautiful sight.”

“Galichskoye Zaozerye” – a trail laid along the shores of the Galichsky Lake along the cultural and historical sights of the area. In summer, the Day of Running traditionally starts here, the program of which includes cross-country skiing and rogaining (a team sport for navigating over rough terrain). In winter, the trail becomes a ski track. A distinctive feature of the Galich Zaozerye competition is the participation of all comers.

Galich is one of nine regions where Segezha Group operates in the Russian Federation.
