New Year’s travel in the Russian Federation has become more expensive compared to 2022. Prices increased by 10-30%. As Kommersant FM found out, in the mass segment, the most expensive vacation is in Krasnaya Polyana. But hotels in the Moscow region have not yet raised prices due to low demand. But after the November holidays, hoteliers plan to rewrite the price list. How much do January holidays cost within the country? And what do tourists choose? Aelita Kurmukova found out.
In terms of the New Year holidays, Russians are conservative, market participants say. In the top preferences: “Krasnaya Polyana”, Minvody, St. Petersburg and the Moscow region. And unexpectedly this year – Veliky Ustyug. Demand for trips to the residence of Father Frost has doubled, and prices have already increased by 15%. But still, the majority choose a ski holiday, says Dmitry Popov, deputy general director of the tour operator Alean:
“If in July you could buy a hotel room at the Krasnaya Polyana resort at last year’s prices, now they have increased by 15%. Closer to the New Year, growth will reach 20% compared to 2022. The average price of a four-day trip to Krasnaya Polyana is 54 thousand rubles. for two with breakfast. “Arkhyz” is more expensive – about 60 thousand rubles. “Sheregesh” is cheaper, the average bill is 42 thousand rubles. This is due to the fact that resorts are just beginning to form and develop.”
These are the most budget accommodation options. If we take the “five”, the average bill at Krasnaya Polyana is 150 thousand rubles. for two people for four days without a road, “Sheregesh” in the Kemerovo region will cost only 70 thousand rubles. But flying there is longer and more expensive than flying to Sochi. There are no direct flights: first it’s almost five hours to Novokuznetsk and another 165 km by bus or taxi.
As for Siberian resorts, they suffer the most from the shortage of four and five-star hotels. Tour operators bought places back in the summer, so many exclusive routes for the January holidays had to be cancelled, says Alexey Mironov, founder and CEO of Special Travel Club:
“There is already a certain difficulty in booking quality excursions for a high level of service – these are private helicopters in remote regions, Altai, Kamchatka, the Kola Peninsula – in some places prices have increased by 10-15%, in others by 30%. For a week, if you take the New Year and a few days after it, it’s around 3 million rubles. for two without tickets.”
Demand for exclusive travel around Russia, according to Mironov, has grown by a quarter this year. On the list of top destinations for the winter holidays is Baikal. A budget option there for three days will cost from 50 thousand rubles, but this is from Irkutsk. If you fly on January 2 from Moscow, this is an additional 30 thousand rubles. per person per ticket.
For lovers of untouched nature and alpine skiing, there is a choice of heliski tours to Lake Baikal with helicopter transfers. This is a different price segment. And such programs have risen in price significantly. Why, explains Nikolai Veselovsky, director of the Vertical World company:
“We work with helicopters, including European ones. Because of the sanctions, all this, of course, has increased. Compared to last year – by 20%. We offer heliski – skiing using helicopters. The weekly program costs 680 thousand rubles. per person.”
Most of the bookings for the New Year holidays are for local holidays, Kommersant FM’s interlocutors share. Russians choose hotels in their regions, saving on railway and air tickets. As for hotels near Moscow, they have not yet raised prices and are now selling tours 5% cheaper than a year ago, says Sergei Romashkin, vice-president of the Association of Tour Operators of Russia:
“In terms of growth of interest, the Moscow region is minus 15% in sales. Interest in the Moscow region is either still ahead, or this topic has ceased to be popular. This is now a very good direction for shopping, the price is slightly lower than a year ago. They mostly choose four-star all-inclusive hotels with swimming pools. In the first wave of holidays, three nights will cost 20-25 thousand rubles. per person. The second wave, Christmas, is 30-35 thousand rubles.”
But after the November holidays, prices for New Year holidays in the Moscow region may increase by 5-7% compared to last year, Romashkin does not rule out. But tours to the Krasnodar region, on the contrary, will become cheaper, but not earlier than the beginning of December. Now they are trading at +18% in value with a decrease in tourist traffic by 3%.
