Wildlife Residence // How the Moscow Zoo has changed

160 years ago, on one of the outskirts of Moscow - Presnensky Ponds - on the initiative of members of the Imperial Society for the Acclimatization of Plants and Animals, the first zoological garden in Russia was opened. Having survived two revolutions and two wars in the 20th century, he never closed his doors to residents and guests of the capital. Today, the institution is one of the ten most popular zoos in the world, and its collection includes over 1.2 thousand species of animals. What the park looked like at different moments in its history is in the Kommersant photo gallery.
