The Moscow State Academic Operetta Theater is preparing to celebrate its 95th anniversary. The release of the film “Why Russia needs an operetta” is timed to coincide with this anniversary date.

Why does Russia need an operetta? Many years ago, the well-known poet, prose writer, screenwriter Yuri Ryashentsev tried to answer this question in one of his poems. Now this mission, with the light hand of the general director of the Moscow Operetta Theater Vladimir Tartakovsky, has been taken on by well-known documentary filmmakers Daria Violina and Sergei Pavlovsky.

“There are different approaches to working with documentary material. For Sergei Pavlovsky and I, there is one, perhaps the most important criterion – we need to love our heroes. And then there is a chance to broadcast this love to the audience. I hope that in the case of the film “Why Russia needs an operetta”, we succeeded,” said Daria Violina.

According to her, when creating the film, it was decided to move away from the usual format, when there is a lot of author’s text in the film.

“This time I wanted to give the floor to the heroes – and there are about 40 of them, and it is important to hear everyone,” the author of the picture noted.

The film tells about the history of the theater from its foundation in 1927 to the present day. The audience will learn about the history of productions of both classical operettas and modern musicals, which have been present in the theater’s repertoire for several years and are rightfully recognized as world-class productions.

“For me, the most difficult task in working on this film was not only the need to acquaint the viewer with dozens of real performances-masterpieces in one hour of screen time, but also to maintain a sense of celebration, burlesque,” ​​said film director Sergei Pavlovsky at the premiere of the film, which took place recently at the Operetta Theatre. “I tried to make the film itself in the operetta genre, while maintaining the high tempo of the narrative and the enthusiasm inherent in this genre.”

Among the heroes of the film “Why Russia needs an operetta” are both legendary artists who are known all over the world – Tatyana Shmyga, Gerard Vasiliev, Svetlana Varguzova, Yuri Vedeneev, as well as the younger generation of theater actors. And also – composers, directors, poets, famous pop artists who began their career on the stage of the Operetta Theater …

The TV premiere of the film will take place on the channel “Russia-Culture” on November 24, on the day of the anniversary of the Operetta Theatre.
