Why do Russians use VPN services?

Every fifth Russian (22.1%) uses a VPN, showed study, conducted by the Regional Public Center for Internet Technologies in conjunction with the V-Project system of sociological surveys and testing. Of these, 40.2% daily, 24.6% several times a week. More than 70% prefer free VPN services. Most respondents need a VPN to access social networks blocked in Russia.
It should be added that more than 40% of respondents believe that using a VPN is unsafe. Only 22.5% hold the opposite position. 62.5% of respondents do not use VPN services.
