Any obese person is a potential client of a cardiologist. Excess weight is a catalyst for many diseases, including cardiovascular diseases. What other symptoms indicate that it is time for you to see a doctor and how to help your body return to normal, Ivan Efremkin, cardiologist of the OMS group of companies, told Moskovskaya Pravda.

Not all people with cardiovascular disease are overweight, but everyone who is obese will eventually have at least high blood pressure, Ivan Efremkin explained.

– The most common problem among people with diseases of the heart and blood vessels is high blood pressure or hypertension. It used to be thought that this was mainly an age-related diagnosis, but now more and more young people under the age of 35-40 years have begun to turn to doctors with complaints of high blood pressure.

One of the causes of hypertension is being overweight.

– Adipose tissue contributes to increased production of hormones of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone and sympathoadrenal systems. These are the main hormones that are responsible for maintaining normal vascular tone. The more adipose tissue in the body, the more active the process of producing these hormones is. As a result, they become more than necessary. Against this background, blood pressure rises, – said Efremkin.

So, in a healthy person, the pressure is considered normal, which is in the range from 115/70 to 135/85. Usually it rises with physical exertion, this is a compensatory reaction of the body aimed at maintaining blood flow. But as soon as the load stops, the pressure returns to normal. In obese patients, the constant load on the vessels is greater, as, for example, in a person who non-stop does strength exercises.

“Against this background, the inner walls of blood vessels suffer, nitric oxide ceases to be produced, cholesterol is built in there, which, in turn, leads to atherosclerosis, which can result in strokes, heart attacks and thrombosis,” the cardiologist warns.

He also said that when determining excess weight, it is worth focusing on the body mass index (BMI). Calculating it is simple: to do this, you need to divide your weight by your height in meters, squared. That is, if, say, your weight is 70 kg, and your height is 165 cm, then the BMI will be 25.7 – this is slightly above the norm.

“A healthy person has a BMI in the range from 18.5 to 25. When the index is more than 27, you already have problems,” Ivan Efremkin explained. – If an obese person, whose BMI is, say, above 35, loses weight to normal, his pressure is guaranteed to decrease within 5-10 mm Hg. If, with overweight, his usual pressure was 140/90, then in the case of weight loss, there is every chance to bring the pressure indicators back to normal. But even if the indicators do not drop to normal, the loss of extra pounds will still have a beneficial effect on blood pressure. Such a patient has every chance to move from a higher category to a lower one. For example, there was hypertension of the 2nd degree, and it will be of the 1st degree. This, in turn, will reduce the dose or reduce the amount of drugs used, the action of which is aimed at normalizing blood pressure.

In any case, in order to maintain the cardiovascular system in good condition, it is necessary to control weight indicators.

“If you are obese and cannot lose weight on your own, you should consult a doctor,” the expert recommends. Obesity is a medical problem that can be successfully treated with medication. But in addition to weight control, do not forget about the general rules of a healthy lifestyle that will help save the heart and blood vessels. You need to devote enough time to physical activity. For the heart, aerobic exercise is useful, and not power – this must also be taken into account. To keep the cardiovascular system in good shape, walking, swimming, running, etc., are the best option, since they do not lead to increased stress and do not contribute to an increase in pressure. But pulling dumbbells is not the best option. Such loads, on the contrary, provoke a sharp increase in blood pressure.

For people suffering from hypertension, strenuous exercise can be dangerous, so before starting strength training, you should consult your doctor.

Meanwhile, it is important not only to properly load the body, but also to properly rest.

– Not many people talk about it He speaks, but the health of the cardiovascular system is impossible without proper rest and healthy sleep, which should last at least 8 hours, the expert notes. By the way, snoring during sleep also contributes to high blood pressure. Quite often this problem is associated with excess weight and it can also be solved.

In general, in order not to start the state of the heart and blood vessels, the main thing is not to ignore the alarming symptoms and seek medical help in time.
