The WhatsApp messenger (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation and banned) will soon make it possible in the European Union to exchange messages with other messengers. In an interview with The Wired, WhatsApp CTO Dick Brower reportedthat this will only be possible if agreements are signed and security protocols are followed.
WhatsApp took this step to comply with the Digital Markets Act coming into force in the EU. WhatsApp integration with other services will help you exchange text and voice messages, videos, images and files directly. That is, from Telegram, Signal, iMessage, Google Messages and other instant messengers you can write directly to WhatsApp.
The messenger believes that such interaction will require a single encryption standard based on the Signal Protocol, but the company is ready to consider other security protocols if the messengers can prove that they meet WhatsApp security standards. Also, for such an exchange it will be necessary to sign an agreement with Meta, the details of which will be revealed in March.
