The WhatsApp messenger (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation and banned) has released a special application for macOS, which introduced group audio and video calling features. The new and improved WhatsApp desktop app has previously arrived on Windows.
Up to 32 people can participate in group audio calls, and up to 8 people can participate in video calls. Users will be able to receive notifications of incoming calls even when the application is closed, it will also be possible to view the history of calls and share files by simply dragging them into the chat. The app has been redesigned to reflect other macOS apps.
Former WhatsApp allowed sending photos and video files in HD quality. Messenger tests the ability to send photo and video documents in original quality, as well as sticker generation from artificial intelligence.
