The American corporation Microsoft is going to remove multiple functions in the next Edge update, the sections “Quotes” and “Picture Dictionary” will be deleted, and it will no longer be possible to solve mathematical problems through the browser. The beta version of Edge is currently being tested and will be available to all users on September 14th.
Edge will also remove the children’s mode and the grammar checker. Microsoft said that removing some of the features will optimize the browser experience and clean up the “Other Tools” menu. The presence of too many features can be perceived by users as unnecessary complication and functional redundancy, which, according to The Verge, led Microsoft to rethink the functionality of the browser.
In May 2023 Edge got down in third place in the list of popular browsers for PC – the first two places are occupied by Google Chrome and Safari.
