Welt: more than 4,400 demonstrations against government policies have been held in Germany since September

More than 4,400 protests against the German government’s energy policy, the fight against the coronavirus pandemic and high inflation, as well as Berlin’s policy regarding the events in Ukraine, have taken place in Germany since September this year. This was reported by the Welt am Sonntag newspaper on Sunday.

The publication writes that more than 100 thousand citizens take to the streets of German cities every week – such data was provided by 14 regions of the country for the period from August 29 to October 23. Only Hamburg and Bavaria failed to publish information about the demonstrations. At the same time, it is specified that information from Brandenburg is provided only for the second half of the reporting period.

It is noted that protest actions are organized by both right-wing extremists and representatives of leftist forces.

The police recorded the peak of protests in the week that began on October 3, counting more than 140,000 protesters. On Saturday of that October week, 10,000 people took to the streets of Berlin to protest against the government’s policies.

From October 10, the number of participants in the rallies began to decline.

Reports show that the activists have not yet been able to centralize the protests in one place. At the same time, it is noted that while the total number of demonstrators is decreasing, the number of rallies is constantly increasing: in early September there were about 400 of them, and by mid-October there were already more than seven hundred.

Earlier, German counterintelligence warned that in autumn and winter, extremist groups could use people’s protest moods for radical purposes.
