The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) overturned the acquittal of the RUSADA disciplinary anti-doping committee against five-time world weightlifting champion Tatyana Kashirina. In June 2022, the committee dropped all charges against her in the anti-doping rule violation case. CAS granted the appeals of RUSADA and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and suspended Tatyana Kashirina for 8 years.
In a statement press services RUSADA states that the athlete is disqualified with a temporary suspension from November 13, 2020 to June 30, 2022. This means that 32-year-old Kashirina is suspended from competition until January 9, 2030.
According to the coach of the athlete Vladimir Krasnov, due to the “huge period” of disqualification, Tatyana Kashirina will no longer be able to return to weightlifting. “As for the possibility of filing an appeal, this requires a lot of money, which no one has,” he said (quoted from TASS).
Due to the temporary suspension, the athlete missed the Moscow European Championship in April 2021 and the Tokyo Olympics, where she was supposed to go as a favorite. In 2012, at the Olympic Games in London, Kashirina won silver with a score of 332 kg.
