Governor of the Zaporozhye region Evgeniy Balitsky, speaking on the Rossiya 24 TV channel, said that “more stringent measures” will be applied to residents of the region who are delaying the registration of Russian passports. According to him, residents will not be “rushed” until the New Year, but then people without a Russian passport may be denied medical care. According to the governor, more than 70% of residents of the Zaporozhye region have now received passports.
Evgeniy Balitsky said that local law enforcement agencies carry out “explanatory work” with people so that they “do not delay” in processing documents. “After the New Year, we will take more stringent measures to ensure that only citizens of the Russian Federation will live on our territory. We have a whole range of mechanisms. For example, if before the New Year a person still receives medical coverage with a Ukrainian passport – this was the decision made – then after the New Year he will not receive it,” he said (quoted from RIA Novosti).
In July 2022, President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on a simplified scheme for obtaining a Russian passport for Ukrainian citizens. In particular, they are exempt from duties.
