“If you leave, you will have to stand in line again”

Ukraine claimed responsibility for a nighttime HIMARS strike on a bridge in Kherson, which killed several people, including two journalists. However, the evacuation of people continues, including through a dangerous crossing.

The morning after the night shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the ferry, many residents of Kherson met in their cars, standing in a huge queue to the other side. They dine right there – at the wheel, someone has pets in cars. People are worried, losing their nerves. They are on sedatives and blood pressure pills. According to the inspectors of the VAI, they let women with children out of the queue.

Meanwhile, the Kherson authorities have already made public the data of Ukrainian servicemen serving the crews of the American MLRS involved in the night shelling of the crossing. These are the Ukrainian military S. Shulga, Y. Kobuta, T. Kozubal. It is reported that they were trained at a training center in the city of Idar-Oberstein in Germany

As for the ill-fated crossing, even before the tragedy, many in the city believed that using it at night was not safe. Now residents are asking fellow citizens not to take risks once again. Local resident Maria told MK about the situation at the crossing.

“The crossing seems to be working now. It is difficult to understand because of the huge line of cars, but it is moving slowly. Its usual working time is until 20-00, and at night civilians spend the night right there, in their cars, waiting in line to leave.

– Is there a curfew?

– There is. But employees are getting in on the action. If people from the suburbs are in line, then where should they go? Drive back?

– Is there any fear after the night incident?

– I’m with a small child, for example, now I’m afraid to leave. Both by boat and ferry. But some drivers spent 2-3 days in line before that. And if you leave, you will have to stand in line again. Therefore, many take the risk and spend the night right there. I read that there were about two hundred cars there that night.

Meanwhile, the eleventh train with residents of the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions arrived today in the Krasnodar Territory. The Kuban will host about 500 people who will be placed in temporary accommodation centers. At the station, residents with luggage are met by employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and volunteers. Psychologists, medical workers and law enforcement agencies help them.

“We were settled in an excellent boarding house, three stars,” Olga tells about the conditions of detention. – We have a big family, we are six people, four of whom are children. We live in a two-room apartment.

– What are the living conditions?

– There are two air conditioners – both for heating and for cooling. Has its own bathroom, two TVs, refrigerator, electric kettle. Cleaning takes place every day.

– What about food?

– The dining room is very large, on 2 floors. The first week was not very well fed, we tuned in – the season was closed on the 1st. This week is really good. They make “milk” for our small child according to our order. In addition, there is a large saucepan with heated milk in the hall. And also semolina on milk.

– How do you like in the city?

– Fares – 50 rubles, meat 400-550 rubles, cigarettes 100-150 rubles, sugar 80 rubles. Too much compared to our prices. There is a pharmacy on site.
