World Boxing Council (WBC) President Mauricio Suleiman announced the exclusion of Russian and Belarusian athletes from the organization’s ratings. He announced this at the WBC session in Acapulco.
“All boxers from Russia and Belarus will be excluded from the WBC ratings. Not a single fight under the auspices of the WBC will take place on the territory of these two countries, as well as the fight for the WBC world title, ”said Mr. Suleiman (quoted from “RIA News”).
Now several Russian boxers are in the WBC ratings at once: Artur Beterbiev, Alexei Papin, and Evgeny Romanov.
In March, the president of the WBC announced that the organization would not approve fights with Russian or Belarusian boxers due to the military conflict. “We decided that we would not sanction performances with Russian and Belarusian boxers,” Mauricio Suleiman said then (quote from El Comentario).
