The general director of the Ukrhydroenergo company, Igor Sirota, said that due to the destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station and the spill of the reservoir, water stopped flowing to Crimea. He explained that the water level in the Kakhovka reservoir is significantly lower than necessary for water supply through the Crimean Canal.
According to him, water will not be supplied to the peninsula for at least a year, he noted that Dnepropetrovsk and Nikolaev regions will suffer from problems with water supply, problems with water will also be in the Kherson region and Zaporozhye.
He added that alternative solutions are currently being considered to provide the population with drinking water. So, Krivoy Rog has water supplies for one and a half to two months. Water is delivered to Nikopol and other cities suffering from flooding.
