Washington will make vaccines and treatment for coronavirus paid

The US government intends to shift the cost of vaccines and treatments for covid first to the public health service, and ultimately to the consumer. Perhaps the country will become the first state in the world to stop the practice of free distribution of vaccines against coronavirus.
Department of Health and Human Services August 30 will hold meeting that will bring together representatives from the healthcare industry as well as state health departments to discuss the commercialization of COVID-19 treatments.
This week, White House Coordinator for COVID-19 Response Dr. Ashish Jha confirmed that the country has overcome the crisis phase of the pandemic and intends to stop purchasing vaccines and tests this fall.
“One of the things we’ve been thinking a lot about in recent months…is getting us out of that acute phase of the emergency where the US government is buying vaccines, drugs, diagnostic tests,” Jha said. He expressed the hope that soon almost all of these products will be on the market.
The Trump and Biden administrations have always wanted to shift control of pricing and coverage of COVID-19 vaccines and treatments to the healthcare industry. Moreover, the number of infections in the United States has decreased, and funding for the response to the pandemic is running out.
“We knew we would need to transition to the commercial market at some point, and we are now approaching that point,” said Dawn O’Connell, HHS Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response.
The transition to moving payments for COVID-19 medicines to the commercial market could take months and push up the cost of health insurance.
