Prince Andrew, the son of Elizabeth II, who fell into disfavor, was allowed to dress as an admiral

Even the mourning events in honor of Elizabeth II did not prevent the emergence of new scandals involving Prince Harry. An “important” issue is being actively discussed in the British media – why the royal grandson is not allowed to wear a military uniform at farewell ceremonies.

News broke on Monday that Prince Harry would not be allowed to wear a military uniform to any royal events in the Queen’s memory, including the Last Vigil, but his uncle Prince Andrew has reportedly received permission to do so.

After the decision was widely seen as a blow to Harry, a spokesman for the Duke of Sussex shared a statement urging everyone to focus on the late Queen.

“Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex will be wearing a morning suit during events in honor of his grandmother,” the statement said. “His decade of military service is not determined by the uniform he wears, and we respectfully request that the focus be on the life and legacy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.”

Only working members of the royal family are allowed to wear military uniforms at royal events.

“This is very important of him,” royal expert Shannon Felton Spence told Fox News Digital. “Apart from his wife and children, his military service is what he is most proud of in his life. And he should be proud. We should all be grateful to Harry for his service.”

Harry has been to Afghanistan twice in his ten years in the army. But the prince lost his honorary military titles as he stepped down as a senior member of the royal family when he and his wife Meghan Markle moved to California in 2020.

A statement released by Buckingham Palace in February 2021 explained that as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will no longer be “working members” of the royal family, “the honorary military offices and royal patronage of the Duke and Duchess will therefore have to be returned to Her Majesty and then distributed among working members of the royal family.

The late Queen’s son Prince Andrew was a naval officer during the Falklands War. But in January, Queen Elizabeth stripped him of his honorary military ranks, including his status as colonel in the Grenadier Guards. After his connection with Jeffrey Epstein became known, Andrew retired from public life. He was accused of sexually abusing a minor in the United States. However, Prince Andrew still holds the rank of Vice Admiral and is expected to wear his military uniform to the final vigil as a “special mark of respect” to the late Queen.

Neither Harry nor Andrew were dressed in military uniform during Prince Philip’s funeral, however, medals and awards were on their suits during the funeral ceremony.

Royal commentator Eloise Parker told Fox News Digital that the Queen’s last vigil will be attended by her four children. They “will be present next to the coffin in uniforms reflecting their individual military careers, despite their current status. A full state funeral is as formal as can be.”

Parker says that Harry can “join the rest of her non-serving grandchildren who will be dressed in non-military uniforms.”
