WADA appeals to CAS against RUSADA’s decision in Valieva’s case

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport against the decision of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA). In its decision, RUSADA found figure skater Kamila Valieva not guilty of doping. Application posted on website WADA.
WADA experts consider RUSADA’s decision that there was “no fault or negligence” on the part of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva in violating anti-doping rules to be wrong. RUSADA informed WADA of its decision on 13 January.
In the lawsuit, WADA wants to achieve the annulment of all the results of the figure skater, as well as a disqualification for four years (the countdown starts from the date of sampling – December 25, 2021). WADA’s decision to file a claim supported in the International Olympic Committee.
In December 2021, WADA found traces of a banned drug, trimetazidine, in a sample of 15-year-old Kamila Valieva. The results of the examination were announced in February 2022, after the end of the Beijing Olympics. Kamila Valieva said that the drug could have entered her body by accident. If she is found guilty, the Russian team will forfeit their Olympic gold for the team tournament at the Beijing Olympics.
