VTsIOM claims that almost half of Russians have a positive attitude towards migrants

Poll VTsIOM, 47% of Russians consider labor migration a positive phenomenon. This is more than double the 2006 survey (21%). 40% have a negative attitude towards migrants, which is also almost two times less than ten years ago (74% in 2013).
The VTsIOM poll was conducted on 4 August. It was attended by 1.6 thousand Russians over the age of 18. The marginal sampling error with a probability of 95% does not exceed 2.5%.
The survey showed that young people aged 18–24 are more likely to see advantages in labor migration (61% of respondents stated this). Most of the respondents aged 45–59 (51%) have a negative attitude towards them. Citizens with good incomes (61%) are more loyal to labor migrants, while respondents with a poor financial situation are more likely to speak negatively about labor migration (56%).
When asked how interethnic relations have changed in Russia, 39% of survey participants answered that they “have become more tense.” 38% believe that these relations “have been and remain the same”, 15% – that they “have become less tense.”
The Prosecutor General’s Office said that in Russia by the end of 2022 was tagged an increase in the level of crime among migrants by 10%, the largest increase in the number of such cases was recorded in the Urals – 465%. Number of migrants deported from the country increased 2.5 times. Against this background, the Ministry of Internal Affairs prepared provisions to deprive migrants of work permits.
