VTsIOM: 55% of Russians are afraid of contracting coronavirus

The number of Russians afraid of contracting the coronavirus rose from 47% in July to 55% in August, according to a survey by the All-Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VTsIOM). 48% are “somewhat” afraid of infection, “very afraid” – 7%.

The survey was conducted from March 2021 to August 2022 in the format of a telephone interview. It was attended by 1,600 Russians over the age of 18. The error with a probability of 95% does not exceed 2.5%. The results of the study are TASS.

At the same time, the share of Russians who are confident that they and their loved ones will not get sick with COVID-19 has decreased from 26% to 20%. 14% of respondents did not think about this issue. 7% said that they themselves or their loved ones had already been ill.

The maximum proportion of those who are afraid of getting infected was recorded in October-November 2021 – 65-64%. In March 2022, it hit a low of 44%.

From July 1 in Russia canceled all restrictions imposed due to the coronavirus pandemic. In the same month, the incidence began to rise. In August, Roszdravnadzor recommended Resume COVID-19 vaccination in areas with high incidence.
