VSS: Pope asks for forgiveness from Russians

On the day when Orthodox Christians celebrate Forgiveness Sunday, Pope Francis asked for forgiveness from everyone he could offend in Russia. In addition, the pontiff invited Ukrainians and Russians to forgive each other and start negotiations on Forgiveness Sunday. This was told by the chairman of the World Union of Old Believers Leonid Sevastyanov.
“The Pope offers to forgive all insults and sit down for negotiations,” he conveyed the words of the Pope. Christian virtue is, according to him, mutual forgiveness and protection of human life. “The Pontiff asks forgiveness on this day from everyone he has ever offended,” Sevastyanov said after the conversation. “First of all, whom did you offend in Russia?”
Before the start of Lent, which will begin on February 27 in 2023, the rite of forgiveness is performed in Orthodox churches. This Sunday tradition has become popular: people ask for forgiveness throughout the day.
