Greece votes in parliamentary elections
In Greece, all 21,529 polling stations that were open from 7 am to vote in the parliamentary elections closed at 7 pm.
After 20.30 the first official results of the voting from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Greece are expected. Exit poll data is expected to be published soon.
There were about 9.9 million people on the voter lists. According to the country’s constitution, voting is mandatory, but there is no penalty for non-participation in elections.
36 parties and coalitions are fighting for the votes of Greek citizens. The focus is on the struggle between the ruling centre-right New Democracy and the opposition coalition of the radical left SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, which are vying for a majority in the 300-seat unicameral parliament.
