Medvedev arrived on a working visit to Vietnam

Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev arrived on a working visit to Vietnam, on May 22 in Hanoi he will hold talks with the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Nguyen Phu Trong and the Permanent Secretary of the CPV Central Committee Truong Thi Mai, informs TASS with reference to the politician’s secretariat.

Medvedev will also meet with Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong and Prime Minister Pham Minh Tinh. The Russian politician intends to discuss with the country’s leadership issues of regional cooperation, the situation in Ukraine, trade, economic and humanitarian cooperation.

Due to Western sanctions, the trade turnover between the two countries fell by more than a third, from $7 billion to $4.569 billion, the agency writes. In this regard, Medvedev is expected to discuss in Hanoi the possibility of using national currencies in mutual trade and withdrawing cash using cards of the Russian Mir system. The parties will also touch upon the work of Gazprom, Zarubezhneft and Novatek in Vietnam.

Russia ready to take part in the construction of nuclear power plants in Vietnam, both large and small capacity, upon a corresponding request from the Vietnamese side, said earlier during his visit to the republic, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Chernyshenko.

Trade turnover between Russia and Vietnam should reach $10 billion by 2025, Chernyshenko said in April during a meeting of the Russian-Vietnamese intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation. During the meeting, he also proposed opening National Tourist Offices in the two countries, and also invited Vietnamese teams to participate in the international digital tournament, which will be held in Kazan in 2024.
