Volodin: Russia cannot be intimidated by sanctions due to referendums

Russia is aware of the decisions to hold referendums of the liberated territories, it cannot be intimidated by new sanctions, declared State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin in his Telegram channel.
“We are aware of our decisions, and there is nothing to frighten us. The European Union did not notice the genocide of the inhabitants of Donbass for 8 years, did not think about their safety. He supported the Kyiv regime, which daily fired at civilians. Old people, women, children died,” he wrote.
This is how Volodin commented on the statement of the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, that the European Union introduce “as soon as possible” new sanctions against Russia, its leadership and referendum organizers.
According to the speaker of the State Duma, European officials do not understand the suffering of the inhabitants of Donbass and “do not advise them what to do.” Residents of the territories where referendums are held have the right to self-determination, which is enshrined in the UN Charter, Volodin stressed. If decisions are made to join Russia, then Moscow will support them, he added.
Today, in the territories of the LPR, DPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, referenda began on the issue of joining Russia. Voting will last until September 27, after which the results will be announced within five days, this was reported on September 21 by the election commission of the Kherson region.
On September 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a partial mobilization in the country. At present, according to him, the Russian Armed Forces operate on the line of contact, which exceeds 1,000 km. Mobilization activities began on the same day. Putin also stressed that Russia would support decisions to annex the liberated territories if they were adopted in a referendum.
Later, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu explained that those in the reserve were subject to conscription under partial mobilization, he estimated their number at 300,000 people. We are not talking about the mobilization of students or conscripts, Shoigu specified.
