Volgograd athletes successfully completed 2023

In 2023, representatives of the Volgograd region performed at many competitions, winning more than 300 medals and maintaining leading positions in most events included in the Olympic program. The tournaments showed that Volgograd residents are still strong in athletics, swimming, kayaking and canoeing, WTF taekwondo, boxing, triathlon and other disciplines, which is confirmed by champion titles and prizes.

Upward movement

The same can be said about non-Olympic sports, where during the season Volgograd residents regularly won medals at both the adult and junior levels. Our fellow countrymen have won many victories and awards in kickboxing, MMA (mixed martial arts), sports acrobatics, wushu, hand-to-hand combat, kyokushinkai karate, and powerlifting.

As always, game sports are held in high esteem, where the main achievement of 2023 was the double triumph of the water polo players of Spartak Volgograd, who won both the championship and the Russian Cup. The Volgograd Dynamo handball players have firmly established themselves in the company of the strongest handball players, the Caustic club has deservedly returned to the elite division, and the Volzhanochka volleyball team is being revived after a long break.

The year 2023 was a confirmation and continuation of the fruitful work of the regional sports school in adaptive sports. Volgograd masters with disabilities collected a richer harvest of medals than ever before at numerous competitions. At the Summer Paralympic Games “We are together. Sports” Volgograd residents won 12 awards – swimming, athletics, rowing, 4 of each merit. The region performed triumphantly at the first ever international competitions among people with hearing impairments (deaf sports).

Summer Games of Deaflympics “We are together. Sport” took place in Ufa. Here in six sports we have a total of 38 medals, of which 14 are gold, 12 are silver and 12 are bronze. In addition, the team of Volgograd Deaflympics won the Russian football championship, defeating very strong rivals from North Ossetia in the final.

In 2023, the Volgograd region itself repeatedly became a platform for numerous events, and our region hosted some starts for the first time in history. This speaks of increasing confidence in the organizational level of holding competitions on Volgograd soil. In total, about 700 events took place in the region, with over 100 thousand people participating. A real holiday were two bright football events at the Volgograd Arena – the Pobeda retro match between Dynamo Stalingrad and Spartak Moscow and a friendly game with the participation of the national teams of Russia and Cuba.

All conditions have been created

High-quality launches are impossible without modern infrastructure – the Volgograd region has been continuing work in this direction for 9 years, including within the framework of the national project.

Thus, two “smart” sports grounds, each with a total area of ​​4 thousand square meters. m, appeared in the Sredneakhtubinsky district on the basis of the “Young Hawk” sports school named after Hero of the Soviet Union Alexander Chislov, as well as on the street. Yeletskaya in Volgograd. A football field, a volleyball and basketball court, running tracks, spectator stands and a full set of various outdoor exercise equipment – this is the main arsenal of these facilities.

In 2023, the region has fully provided itself with facilities under the “Ready for Labor and Defense” (RLD) program, which, given the abundance of various sports equipment, can be used for general physical exercises and strength training in the fresh air, including for persons with disabilities .

There is one more sports and recreation complex: a new sports and recreation center was built on the basis of Lyceum No. 11 in the Voroshilovsky district of Volgograd. And in the Nikolaevsky district of the region, on the basis of the Bogatyrev sports school, the reconstruction of athletics tracks and sectors of the sports core has been completed. Two climbing walls that meet all modern requirements and are the first in the history of the region were built in Volgograd and the Sredneakhtubinsky district of the region, and two football fields with artificial turf with a heating system were laid at the Volgograd Arena.
