At the end of November 2023, it became known that the International Swimming Federation refused to change Sibirtsev’s sports citizenship. Now he is listed as a representative of the Uzbekistan national team.

Ilya Sibirtsev became the European junior champion in 2019. That same year he won silver and bronze medals at the World Junior Championships.
