“Check the car, do not advertise routes”

The terrorist attack in a cafe in St. Petersburg, as a result of which military commander Vladlen Tatarsky was killed, raised the issue of the personal safety of military journalists and bloggers. Working on the front line, military correspondents risk their lives every second – and this is normal, such work. But even a deep rear now does not at all guarantee security for front-line reporters. Every military commander can be hit at any moment, and something needs to be done about it.

How could a terrorist carry a box with a bust into the hall? Why did her psychological tricks, getting into trust work? This question must have crossed the mind of everyone who watched the video of the tragedy. Understanding that this would be the first question for the investigators, the organizers of the meeting with Tatarsky, the Cyberfront-Z movement, tried to explain themselves: “We took certain security measures, but, unfortunately, they were not enough,” the movement’s social networks say.

The masters of Russian military journalism gave their advice to their colleagues on how to protect yourself in the rear and not increase your own risks where possible.

– If we analyze the testimony of witnesses to the explosion in a cafe, some of them said that Vladlen Tatarsky at the time of the presentation of the statuette was characterized by some bravado, – notes the chairman of the Union of Journalists of Russia, a former military commander, Vladimir Solovyov, – The guards did not want to let a girl with a box into the hall , suddenly there is an explosive. But Vladlen himself asked to let her pass with the words: “Bring it here, at the same time we will check it.” Here we checked. This tragedy gives us an experience that we must understand.

As Solovyov emphasized, the murder of Vladlen Tatarsky and the blowing up of Darya Dugina’s car make it possible to formulate two vital rules for military journalists today. The first is to check your car. No one can be sure that while you were away to the store or office, an improvised explosive device was not picked up on her.

The second rule of safety is not to advertise your routes and not to announce your location on social networks. Unfortunately, for some, this may mean minimizing public speaking and creative meetings with subscribers, or even completely abandoning them.

Gennady Dzyuba, co-author of the Bastion training program for military journalists, adds that special attention should be paid to how things are going with security at events where the military commander comes. To do this, they would do well to recall the painful experience of the 90s. The current situation is not much different from that “dashing” era,

– This is the responsibility of the organizers. When there were the first and second Chechen wars, explosions in Moscow and hostage-taking in other cities, we saw that all events were of two types. On some, security measures were taken seriously, every incoming person was checked, and they “rang” with metal detectors. On others, everything was done carelessly. Often, measures were introduced after the fact, when something “bang” somewhere. We need to understand where and when we live. Now is a very difficult time, – says Gennady Dziuba.

In addition to explosives, there are also poisonous ones, – reminds Vladimir Solovyov. They, too, may be in the asset of terrorists:

– No wonder recently Dmitry Rogozin said that you can not buy food and water from local residents in the NWO zone. There have already been cases when toxic substances were put into food. It can be dangerous everywhere. Therefore, we urge our colleagues to be vigilant and cautious, especially to the sudden appearance of any things and strangers.

The head of the UJR called the exit from closed chats on social networks and disabling comments on publications on their own Telegram channels a reasonable step, as well as an element of digital and psychological hygiene:

– Bots and CIPSO immediately run into the comments. They unbalance the authors, threaten them and their loved ones, children, with physical violence. Even during the events in Yugoslavia, this practice was used. Many journalists from the state media were driven to psychosis.
