Virologists spoke about complications after Western coronavirus vaccines

The use of Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccines leads to an increased risk of neurological, circulatory and cardiovascular complications, told RBC virologists. This is how experts commented on a recent study from the Global Vaccine Data Network, published in the journal Vaccine last week. At the same time, no complications were recorded from the Russian Sputnik V, experts noted.
Vaccines that protect against severe coronavirus increased the risk of heart inflammation, blood clots in the brain after immunization, and Guillain-Barré syndrome, a neurological disorder, according to the study.

The scientist referred to studies according to which the occurrence of myelitis and myocarditis in the vaccinated group greatly exceeded the incidence of the same complications in those who did not receive these vaccines.
Associate Professor of the Department of Infectious Diseases of RUDN University Sergei Voznesensky notes that these studies are still not enough to establish a reliable relationship between mRNA vaccines and complications. “The youngest mRNA vaccine platform. We don’t have enough data from this platform that would be obtained on a wide scale, over a long time interval, so there are a lot of all sorts of reports, both single and multiple cases of complications that may be associated with this platform,” said Sergei Voznesensky.
At the same time, as Sergei Voznesensky noted, the Russian Sputnik V vaccine is based on human adenovirus, and therefore such complications after the use of vaccines were not recorded in registration studies. This is confirmed by Alexander Ginzburg: according to him, in the case of this vaccine, the number of these complications and any other side complications did not exceed the control level, that is, the number of these complications that usually occur without vaccination.
Researchers reported possible risks of complications after using mRNA vaccines back in 2021. The European Medicines Agency (EMA) reported that there were 30 cases of thromboembolism in Europe among 5 million AstraZeneca vaccine recipients. After this, Norway, Denmark, Estonia, Iceland and Bulgaria refused to use this vaccine. AstraZeneca officials said there was no evidence of an increased risk of blood clots from the vaccine.
