The coronavirus pandemic will not repeat a large wave of cases comparable to last year. About it URA.RU said the chief researcher of the Gamaleya Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, virologist Anatoly Altshtein.
He explained that large rises in the incidence can last a month and a half. Small – for weeks, followed by a decline.
“There are no signs that there will be a big wave. I think that there should not be a big wave in this pandemic,” said Anatoly Altshtein.
The reason for the current rise in the incidence in Russia, he called new versions of Omicron. Most likely, we are talking about the BQ strain. It is unlikely that the XBB variant has had much time to spread.
All of these strains are highly infectious and have low mortality. Altshtein stated that in some countries they caused quite a strong rise in the incidence. In Russia, there is a local situation with a slow increase, which will not be significant.
