Vinnik’s lawyer asked Patriarch Kirill to help return the Russian to his homeland

The lawyer of the Russian Alexander Vinnik, Frenchman Frederic Belo, said that he had addressed in a letter to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill with a request to assist in the return of his client from the United States home.
The letter says that the Vinnik case is a political trial for the United States, and in the current conditions, the risk of an unfair sentence being passed to a Russian is very high.
As Belo emphasized, an exchange, among other Russian citizens, for imprisoned Americans in the Russian Federation, can now save Vinnik.
Realizing that negotiations are now underway at the state level on the exchange of prisoners, Vinnik appeals to Patriarch Kirill as a defender of the Orthodox faith and all Orthodox with a request to “raise his voice before the Russian authorities” in support of the petition for the return of the accused to his homeland, the letter says.
Vinnik was arrested in 2017 on the Greek peninsula of Halkidiki at the request of Washington. He is accused of creating, without a license from the authorities, the BTC-e cryptocurrency exchange, through which billions of US dollars were allegedly laundered. Vinnik faces up to 55 years in prison.
